CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LISTEN…
YOU HEAR THE SOUNDS OF THE AMAZON JUNGLE…
BUT WAIT…YOU’RE IN THE MIDDLE OF BELFAST CITY!
The Soundscape Park project is a new exciting and unique installation in the newly built Bridge Community Garden on the Albertbridge Road, Belfast.
Permanent loudspeakers are hidden among the plants and at height. Sensors are also installed to detect movement and allow visitor interaction. Ambient soundscapes will be playing all around the garden, continually changing throughout the day. Each visit will be different.
A special focus will be made on children. With their vivid imaginations and inquisitive nature, this garden should be a fascinating place for them to visit each day.
The sounds will be controlled by students and staff of the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Queen’s University Belfast.
SARC is a world leader in installation projects of this nature. Masters projects, PhD projects, and community based projects can use the installation to create custom made sounds that will enhance the user’s experience of being in the space. We will be making use of technology to allow interaction between users of the garden and the sounds produced. The project can also be used to feed into other research and projects within the University.
The project, funded by Allstate NI, will be a one-of-a-kind in Europe. Business in the Community NI who is managing the Community Garden are also great supporters of the project and it is hoped the unique garden will invigorate local business and community involvement in the area.
